A mining company is seeking an experienced machine operator for a opencast coal mine in Westport.
NOTE - THE ROLE IS BASED IN WESTPORT AND CANDIDATES NEED TO BE WILLING TO RELOCATE (ACCOMODATION IS PROVIDED)
The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery at an open-cast coal mining operation. The role supports daily production targets while maintaining strict health, safety, and environmental standards in a challenging outdoor mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation • Operate heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, dozers, dump trucks, graders, or similar equipment within an open-cast coal mine • Carry out daily pre-start inspections and routine operational checks • Operate machinery efficiently to meet production and overburden removal targets • Identify and report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly
Health & Safety • Comply with all mine site safety systems, company policies, and legislative requirements • Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and site inductions • Identify hazards typical to open-cast mining environments and take appropriate control measures • Use PPE and safety equipment correctly at all times
Site & Team Support • Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and other operators to ensure coordinated mine operations • Follow instructions from shift supervisors and mine management • Assist with general site duties when required to support mine operations
Environmental Responsibility • Operate machinery in accordance with environmental management plans • Minimise environmental impact, including dust, noise, and fuel use • Report environmental incidents or risks immediately
Job Requirements
Minimum 5 years experience in Machine Operation / Road Transport Willingness to relocate to Westport (Accommodation provided) Ability to pass a MOJ and pre-employment drug test
Preferred requirements License endorsements - Class 2-5 / WTR / F / D
