Experienced Barista

Kai Toi Cafe is a vibrant, community-focused cafe based on the Hihiaua Peninsula, serving fresh, delicious kai in a warm, welcoming, and supportive environment. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced barista who is passionate about coffee, customer service, and being part of a values-driven team. This is a hands-on role suited to someone confident behind the machine, who takes pride in consistency, quality, and creating positive experiences for every customer. You’ll work alongside a supportive team in a culturally rich setting that values respect, manaakitanga, and connection to community.

You Will: • Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based coffee to a consistent standard • Confidently operate coffee machines, grinders, and related equipment • Deliver friendly, efficient, and welcoming customer service • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the coffee and front-of-house areas • Follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety requirements • Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff • Represent Kai Toi Cafe with professionalism, warmth, and respect at all times

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

• Is reliable, punctual, and consistently ready to work (arriving prepared and on time) • Proven experience as a barista in a busy cafe environment • Strong coffee knowledge, including milk texturing and espresso extraction • Confident using POS (Point of Sale) system • A positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining quality and service • Is fit and healthy able to work under pressure • Is available Tuesday to Sunday, working on a rotating 5-day roster • Can work the following shifts as rostered: 7:30am – 3:00pm • Has a restricted licence or higher • Can successfully pass a pre-employment drug test • Has no criminal convictions
