Papamoa based employer is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Senior Log Truck Driver (Class 5) to join a full-time team in Tauranga and surrounding areas. This role combines expert driving ability with leadership, mentoring, and operational accountability across a busy forestry transport operation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership, Mentoring & Team Support Provide day-to-day leadership to less experienced log truck drivers, supporting a strong safety and performance culture.
Mentor and train junior drivers in: Safe heavy vehicle operation Log loading, securing, and restraint Forestry road protocols and safe driving practices Fatigue management and worktime compliance
Provide feedback to junior drivers and escalate training, performance, or compliance concerns to management as needed.
Emergency Response & Operational Problem-Solving
Assist in managing incidents such as:
Vehicle breakdowns Accidents or near misses Road closures or delays Severe weather conditions
Help coordinate safe solutions and support drivers during unexpected or high-risk situations.
Driving, Transport & Delivery Duties
Operate a Class 5 log truck safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all transport laws, forestry protocols, and company safety standards. Follow assigned routes and delivery schedules to meet operational timelines. Assist with safe loading and unloading of logs and equipment to avoid damage and ensure proper load restraint. Review job sheets before and after deliveries to ensure orders are accurate and complete. Identify and alert to any route obstructions, delays, or safety concerns that may impact delivery performance.
Vehicle Responsibility & Compliance
Take full responsibility for the assigned vehicle, including:
Reporting servicing or maintenance needs promptly Keeping the vehicle clean, tidy, and safe Immediately reporting any accidents or damage and completing all required paperwork within 24 hours
Maintain a current, valid Class 5 driver’s licence relevant to the vehicle driven. Uphold a consistently safe driving record and model excellent driving standards for junior drivers.
Documentation & Reporting
Complete all delivery notes, logs, reports, and compliance documentation accurately and on time. Communicate effectively with dispatch and management regarding operational updates, safety issues, and maintenance concerns.
What We’re Looking For
Experienced Class 5 log truck driver, ideally with forestry experience. Strong leadership qualities and willingness to support, train, and guide junior drivers. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and safety awareness. Reliable, self-managed, and committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism and care.
Job Requirements
NZ Class 5 or an overseas equivalent.
Minimum 3 years experience operating heavy vehicles, ideally truck and trailer units.
Able to safely operate and manoeuvre a 9 axle truck and trailer unit, including navigating challenging and varied terrain.
Physically fit, as the role involves manual and physically demanding tasks.
Must successfully complete a pre employment drug test.

Review job sheets before and after deliveries to ensure all orders are complete and accurate.
Notify management immediately of any obstructions, delays, or safety concerns that may impact timely and efficient delivery.
Keep the vehicle clean, tidy, and well maintained at all times.
Prepare and complete all required delivery reports, logs, and documentation accurately.
Report any accidents or vehicle damage immediately and complete the required paperwork within 24 hours.
