Employer is looking for an Air Vac Driver/Operator. The Air Vac Driver/Operator is responsible for the safe operation of Air Vacuum Excavation equipment for the purpose of exposing underground services, tree roots, and other sensitive assets across the Greater Auckland region. The role requires a strong commitment to health and safety, risk-based decision-making, and professional conduct while driving, operating, and engaging with customers on site. Key Responsibilities 1. Driving and Compliance • Safely drive and operate company vehicles (Class 4 required). • Complete and maintain accurate logbooks and vehicle checks in accordance with NZTA requirements. • Follow all road rules, transport regulations, and company driving policies. 2. Safe Methods of Excavation • Operate Air Vac units in accordance with company manuals, SOPs, and training. • Use risk-based assessment to plan and carry out excavation around underground services, utilities, and tree roots. • Apply correct techniques to prevent damage to assets, avoid service strikes, and ensure safe exposure of utilities. 3. Site Safety and Work Practices • Follow all site-specific rules, inductions, and contractor safety requirements. • Ensure the work area is set up safely, including barriers, exclusion zones, signage, and environmental controls. • Identify hazards and implement appropriate controls following company H&S procedures and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. 4. Customer and Stakeholder Interaction • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and the public. • Ensure work is carried out to customer specifications while protecting health, safety, and property. • Report variations, hazards, service risks, or unexpected findings promptly. 5. Equipment Operation and Care • Carry out daily pre-starts, maintenance checks, and minor servicing of Air Vac equipment. • Report faults or issues immediately according to company procedures. • Keep equipment and vehicles clean, organised, and compliant with operational standards. 6. Documentation and Reporting • Complete job sheets, risk assessments, and service reports correctly and on time. • Record any incidents, near misses, service strikes, or hazards as required. Job Requirements
• Class 4 licence (minimum) • Knowledge of underground services, utilities, and tree-root protection • Ability to follow manuals, SOPs, and operational guides • Strong hazard identification and risk assessment skills • Good communication and customer service ability • Reliability, punctuality, and safe work habits The best candidates are people who have their class 4 license but might not actually have any work experience as a driver but who are keen to do some physical work. • It’s about 90% working and 10% driving. • Must be able to pass a drug test. Need to have good reading and writing skills • Be fit as medical tests are required.
