Mechanical Assistant

Moana Orchards Limited is a family owned and operated orchard business growing apples and pears. The company runs its own packhouse facility along with a small stock holding. Located on the coastal highway in Mariri, the company has identified the need to increase its mechanical support capability as part of the company’s planning for the future. A new fulltime permanent position has now been established requiring a highly skilled and versatile Mechanical Assistant to support the company’s orchard production and packing operations. You will be service focused with a reputation for attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset. There is plenty of variety for an energetic mechanic who has a “can-do attitude” and who wants to work for a locally owned and operated horticulture business with a strong teamwork culture.

The successful candidate will enjoy working alongside operational staff and managers in the field and packhouse environments, be solutions focused and will be known for someone who can read a situation early and diagnose faults fast. Experience with servicing agricultural tractors and associated machinery and light vehicles is preferred. Ideally you will be trade qualified in automotive engineering, or a similar field, however equivalent experience with preference to a minimum of 2 years’ workshop experience will be considered. Welding skills and experience would be desired but not essential. Applicants with additional experience in calibrating, monitoring, and maintaining fruit or food handling systems is of particular interest. The successful applicant will be strong in health and safety, have a good sense of humour and be available to work extra hours associated with the harvest season. You must be able to communicate effectively with all staff plus contractors, as required and be proactive in identifying issues that are likely to impact on quality and production targets.
