Apple Thinner - fixed term contract to approx 8 May 2026

A Tasman Orchard is looking for a Pipfruit Thinner and Picker to join their team from approximately Monday, 24 November 2025, to the end of the pipfruit harvest, which is approximately Friday, 8 May 2026. This is a fixed-term position offering contract and wage rates. During November through to January, the focus is on thinning, which involves removing immature fruitlets and setting the crop for the upcoming harvest. From February to May, the focus is on harvesting the fruit, which involves picking apples and pears from small- and medium-sized fruit trees and placing them in large bins ready for transportation to the packhouse for processing.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate must be prepared to work outdoors for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Be confident climbing and moving a ladder all day and have the physical strength to use and carry a picking bag using shoulder and back straps. It’s essential to be SunSmart and bring plenty of water and food to work, as you burn a lot of energy due to the physical nature of the job. We will provide full training. You need reliable transport as the orchard is 11 km from Motueka. Old and minor criminal convictions will be looked at on a case-by-case basis.
