Our employer is seeking a reliable, hands-on Micro Facility Operator/Slaughter-man to join their innovative team in North Canterbury. About the Role: This is a practical and varied position ideal for someone confident around large animals and comfortable performing physical tasks outdoors. Your key responsibilities could include, but not be limited to: • Handling and humane slaughter of animals in line with MPI regulations • Supervising animal preparation for transport and overseeing transfers. • Travelling between fixed micro facilities and processing sites as scheduled • Assisting with packing and labelling at the processing facility • Full training and certification will be provided to meet industry and compliance standards. • With training and experience, the role will involve slaughtering approximately 4 beasts per hour. • This role involves regular travel within the region, including between micro facilities and processing facilities. You must hold a full driver’s licence and be confident towing trailers or small trucks. While most transport will be outsourced, you may be required to assist at times. Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will be confident handling large animals, will have a strong work ethic and value precision and humane practices. They will be open to learning and embracing a new career path and be able to work independently and follow structured schedules. Must be willing to travel between sites and towns. Must be willing and able to work outdoors. Must be physically fit and able to do heavy lifting and moving of animal carcasses. Previous experience as knife-hand or slaughter-person would be ideal, but not necessarily a deal breaker. They must hold a full NZ driver’s licence and be able to tow trailers (truck licence a bonus, but not essential). They must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
