A Wellington support provider is searching for a Senior Kaitiaki to join their team.

As a Senior Kaitiaki you will do the work of Kaitiaki, as well as being the duty leader for shifts, leading the management of complex situations and incidents as well as guiding, mentoring, and supervising the daily mahi of Kaitiaki.

The Kaitiaki provide 24/7 support to whanau living in our onsite long term transitional housing and to other manuhiri (clients, visitors, and residents) who are utilising the array of services we provide at Whakamaru. As part of the Community Services team, and helping our whanau reach a place where they can successfully transition to permanent housing the Kaitiaki and Senior Kaitiaki will:

• Provide onsite concierge and wayfinding to manuhiri. • Support whanau with personal development, life skills, and health and wellbeing support. • Enable engagement in community activities and referral to other community support services. • De-escalate challenging behaviour in a restorative and safe manner. • Help with the day-to-day management of complex communal areas. • Provide reception services. • Work 12-hour night shifts

Through your day-to-day work, you will build strong relationships with manuhiri (mostly rangatahi) and the Whakamaru team to create an inclusive, supportive and fun community where people feel safe.

Job Requirements

• Have at least 3 years’ experience as a kaitiaki/support worker or similar role • Ideally hold a Level 4 NZ Certificate in health and wellbeing or a relevant social service or health qualification • Proven experience and ability to coach, guide, and mentor other kaitiaki, • Be confident to take responsibility for a site, situation, or programme when needed. • Be compassionate and kind. • Have an open mind about working alongside people from all walks of life. • Have a proven ability to manage and de-escalate challenging situations. • Understand Te Tiriti, Te Ao and Tikanga Maori and their application to social services. • Have previous experience or interest in working with youth. • Be eligible to live and work in Aotearoa New Zealand • Be able to pass pre-employment MOJ check and drug test.
