Looking for a challenging and extremely rewarding opportunity to use your Lived Experience of mental distress to walk alongside peers experiencing a range of social issues including mental distress and crisis challenges?
As a Peer Support Worker you will draw from your own lived experience to support peers/tangata whaiora and their whanau by building genuine, strengths-based relationships.
Using the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) framework, you'll guide individuals that present in crisis/mental health distress toward safer outcomes. Deescalate and settle individuals and provide individualised support and safety planning.
The role will be situated at Mt Cook. Crisis Cafe will operate between Thursday and Sunday, between 2pm – 11pm. And be delivered by Peer Support Workers and the Clinical Lead.

Job Requirements
• PREFERRED, not Required. Have either a Level 4 Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Peer Support), Level 4 Certificate in Health, or Intentional Peer Support training (IPS). • Proven ability to work effectively with peers from diverse cultures and backgrounds, especially Maori and Pasifika communities and their whanau. • Enjoy working alongside and supporting people. • Be positive and encouraging, with a good sense of humour. • Willingness to undertake training. • Personal experience of challenges with mental distress and can use this to support others • Demonstrated ability to take control of your own wellbeing, with developed insights and personal awareness. • Take active responsibility for maintaining your own holistic wellbeing. • Ability to role model moving forward in a journey to wellbeing. • Be a critical and reflective thinker. • Have effective time management skills and the ability to manage competing demands and deadlines. • Possess a genuine passion for making a positive difference. • Able to pass a pre-employment MOJ check and Drug test.
