About this job

We’re a busy, upmarket bistro with a focus on classic dishes with a modern twist. We serve beautifully prepared, complete plates of food using the best locally sourced ingredients. We're also home to Downstairs, a vibrant wine bar offering substantial small plates, including hot chips, a killer parfait, and a daily braise during the winter months. Our menu is always evolving with changing specials boards, offering plenty of room for creativity.

About the Role: We are looking for a talented Grill Chef to join our team at Twenty Seven Steps. You’ll be at the heart of the kitchen, leading the grill station with confidence and precision. Your key responsibility will be cooking our signature meats—venison, lamb, and beef—to perfection, while also supporting the team with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

We pride ourselves on quality, and we need someone who can execute great food quickly and consistently. You’ll be an integral part of a small, close-knit team, so we’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities: Lead the grill station, ensuring food is cooked to a high standard. Maintain consistency and quality in every dish, especially our signature meats. Work cleanly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Collaborate with the kitchen team to bring fresh ideas to the menu. Ensure high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene.

What We’re Looking For: At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role. Strong skills in cooking meat on the grill, particularly venison, lamb, and beef. A passion for food and creativity in the kitchen. Excellent communication skills, with a focus on teamwork and positive vibes. A commitment to maintaining health & safety standards and a clean work environment. Flexibility to move between pass and grill as needed.

Why Work With Us: 35–45 hours per week on a 4-day on, 3-day off schedule. Guaranteed 30 hours per week even when not full-time. Tips shared equally among the team. Free meals on shift and great staff discounts. A kind, supportive, family-style work environment. Opportunity to work with an owner-operated business that truly cares about its people and the food it serves. We’re proud of what we do, and we’re looking for a chef who shares our passion for great food and a positive work culture.
