Flower Thinner - Apple Orchard and Kiwifruit

Our Brightwater Orchard Employer requires Flower Thinners to remove flowers from apple trees by hand allowing the remaining fruit to grow to an acceptable export standard. The employee must be able to lift, manoeuvre and climb to the top of a 2.75 metre ladder. Each employee will be shown how to use a ladder at the time of induction. The employee must be capable of working outdoors in summer conditions (i.e. in the heat for 8 hours per day). Most thinners will be paid on an hourly rate with the opportunity for bonuses. The bonus will be based on the output of the average thinner with some experience. The first two days of your employment will be at hourly-rate while you undergo training. After the first two days you are required to thin a minimum of your hourly rate in order to retain your position.
Job Requirements
A good attitude and a willingness to perform thinning to supervisor’s requirement. • Maintaining quality standards on a daily basis. • Earning a wage above the minimum rate, asking for help from the supervisor when necessary. • Health and safety and hygiene requirements must being maintained at all times. In order to meet the minimum expectation the thinner must: 1. Be physically fit, must be able to move and position the ladder (if using) quickly. 2. Be able to follow supervisors instructions Rural location - transport is a must
