A Tapawera Hop Farm is looking for a strong Horticultural Team Leader. As a Team Leader, you'll report to the Farm Managers and be at the forefront of our horticultural operations, planning for and managing a dedicated team to achieve operational excellence. Your role will involve overseeing day-to-day seasonal activities; Tail Cutting, Hooking and Hook checking, Stringing and Hop Plant training, ensuring high standards in plant care and pest management, and driving team performance. You'll play a crucial role in planning, co-ordinating, and executing horticultural tasks while fostering a positive and productive work environment.

For this position we expect you to have experience managing large teams of people from various cultures and significant horticultural practical experience. The successful applicant will also take pride in their work, be flexible, and enjoy working with a committed group of people. Remuneration will be based on the level of experience you already have but will be competitive.

The employer is looking for someone with Horticultural experience (have an understanding of growing plants) and experience with leading large teams of people. At Hop Training time the team will be 40-50 workers. If you have worked with RSE workers this would be great but not essential, as you will predominantly be working with and managing the RSE team.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities: • Lead and motivate a team of horticultural staff, setting clear goals and expectations. • Plan and oversee daily operations, including planting, maintenance, and harvesting. • Ensure adherence to best practices in plant care, pest management, and environmental sustainability. • Monitor and evaluate team performance, providing training and development opportunities. • Collaborate with other departments to align horticultural practices with overall company goals. • Manage resources efficiently, including equipment, supplies, and budget. • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to plant health, team dynamics, and operational processes. • Maintain accurate records and reports on horticultural activities and team performance. Qualifications: • Proven experience in a horticultural or similar industry, with a background in team leadership. • An understanding of plant biology, soil management, and horticultural practices would be preferred but not essential. • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. • Ability to communicate effectively and foster a collaborative team environment. • Relevant qualifications or certifications in horticulture or management (preferred). • Proficiency in using horticultural tools and equipment.

Hours and days of work will vary with the seasonality of the Hops. (40 hours per week)
