This role will see you working in a close team environment, maintaining, and developing Porirua City Council Cemeteries and the Crematorium.

This is a part-time role for 32 hours per week. Ideally these hours would be worked from Tuesday-Friday, but this is flexible for the right person.

You will be responsible for:

• identifying and preparing burial plots

• maintaining and developing all gardens and turf areas to a high standard

• providing assistance, to family members, mourners and funeral directors in a mature and sensitive manner

• attending and providing assistance with services as required

Full training on the job will be available to the right person.

Job Requirements

You’ll need to be empathetic, and emotionally sensitive to the needs of our community.

We are looking for someone who is willing to learn and prepared to try their best at all that you do.

You’ll need to show us that you:

• have the physical fitness needed to undertake this role

• have experience with small tools and machinery

• can work after 4pm on weekdays and some Saturday mornings if required

• have a clean Class 1 driver’s licence, with wheels and tracks endorsement (ideally)

• currently hold, or are willing to obtain, a first aid qualification

• have some experience with diggers or machinery (ideally)

• have horticultural qualifications would be an advantage

As this role is based at Whenua Tapu cemetery, you’ll need to have your own reliable transport to and from work.
