A business based in Waihi is looking for a Funeral Assistant to join their team. This is a specialist role for a mature, dedicated person with a very empathic and caring nature. Someone who can demonstrate great composure at a time where people are grieving and bereaved. You also must be able to provide great customer services one-on-one and in a group environment.

Your duties will include but are not limited to: • Attending funerals at cemeteries. • Working in a mortuary and handling deceased, (transporting, collecting, and delivering). • Use of a mobile hoist (training given). • Dealing with bereaved families – Setting up the viewing rooms. • Checking legal paperwork and reading instructions clearly and administrating personal details. • Ordering inventory/stock, including headstone ordering. • General cleaning.

Previous industry experience would be preferred; however, the employer may consider training candidates with an appropriate level of transferable skills and experience, such as candidates with a previous caregiving or nursing background or those who have worked in a rest home setting.

Candidates must be physically fit and able to offer the employer dedication and flexibility when and where required. In turn the employer will train the successful candidate and potentially offer them further training and a directorship position should the candidate prove to be proficient and dedicated in the role. This training will be in house and could lead to further external advancement training, qualifications, and a career!!!

Job Requirements

Must be physically fit. Must be able to work in a mortuary and handle the deceased. Must be able to work occasional nights (within a hospital environment when required). Must have previous industry experience and/or appropriate transferable skills/experience. Mobile hoist experience would be an advantage, however, training will be given. Must have a Full Class 1 Driver Licence. Must be flexible to work out of areas' hospitals. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test (employer may ask candidates to pass a pre-employment and/or random drug testing). A Ministry of Justice check will be conducted (only minor prior convictions considered case-by-case).

Days of work
9am to 5pm (flexible night and weekend work based on demand) 30 + hours pending night-time work. (30 hours per week)

$23.15 per hour (negotiable based on skills/experience)
