We are recruiting now for the next cohort of Quarantine Officers to start 6th May 2024.

Quarantine Officers are highly trained, everyday New Zealanders doing an extraordinary job for their country. They work to ensure that cargo and passengers entering New Zealand are free of biosecurity risk. Officers work on a rotational roster that offers them a breadth of work as they lead New Zealand's biosecurity system at the front line - international airports, ports, mail centres, and cargo facilities.

About You:

• We're looking for passionate, self-motivated people who enjoy a range of tasks, worksites, and varied work. • You will be fit and healthy as you will be standing for periods of time. • Working indoors and outdoors will appeal to you. • You will have strong communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to create strong relationships with stakeholders. • You have a high level of computer literacy. • An interest or qualification in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, botany, or environmental science. • You may have work experience in a life science or similar industry.

About the Team:

The Border Clearance Services Directorate within the Biosecurity New Zealand branch helps protect New Zealand's natural environment, primary industries and people against exotic pests and diseases. It is accountable for ensuring the delivery of sustainable and effective frontline biosecurity clearance services at the border for imported goods, craft, mail, passengers, crew and transitional facilities.

Job Requirements

• A cover letter is essential, your application will not be considered without one. • Reliable • New Zealand permanent resident or citizen • Ability to pass a police vetting • Ability to pass a drug test • Ability to pass an alcohol test • Ability to pass a colour blindness test • Working indoors and outdoors will appeal to you • Hold a Full Class 1 NZ License • Comfortable working via rotating shift • Fit and healthy as you will be standing for a long period of time • Have strong communication skills (oral and written) and ability to create strong relationships with stakeholders • High level of computer literacy • Passionate, self-motivated individual who enjoys a range of tasks, worksites, and varied work • Qualification in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, botany, or environmental science is preferable but not essential • Have work experience in a life science or similar industry

**** Please note that if successful in the application process, you must be able to attend the assessment centre on either the 18th, 19th, or 20th of March 2024 and if offered the position, you must be able to start on the 06th of May 2024 ****

**** If you are successful in progressing through to the assessment centre, you will also need to provide a copy of your Ishihara Eye Test ****
