About this job
Log Scalers, also known as Checkpoint Processors, are required at the Wellington Wharf. Our Wellington branch needs to keep building our team of log scalers. Log scaling is an NZQA accredited job where you will receive structured training and a recognised qualification. The Checkpoint is a facility where logging trucks come to have their logs measured and ticketed ready for export. The Log Scaler “scales” or measures each log to an international standard using scanning equipment, then barcodes the log and records it in our system so that every single log can be tracked wherever it is. The Checkpoint is a team environment where the safety of our staff is paramount. Shifts vary and can be up to 12 hours in length and are mostly Monday to Friday with occasional work on a Saturday. Once every 5 weeks you may be required to work night shifts. Ultimately, we are looking for staff who can be a bit flexible with the hours they work.
You will be accurate when taking measurements with good attention to detail. Previous admin and data entry experience will be beneficial. You will enjoy communicating with truck drivers and members of your team. This is an active outdoor role that requires you to meet deadlines and also be ok on your feet for most of your shift. You will also be confident operating scanning equipment and preferably hold a full class 1 licence. Pass a pre-employment MOJ, Medical, Drug and Alcohol test
