Dog Handler

Exciting opportunity to work as a Dog Handler for a small team just outside of Porirua is now available. To become a dog handler, you must be keenly observant and interested in canine behaviour, be self-motivated, and demonstrate empathy and resilience. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, who is ready to learn and grow. They are a small daycare facility based outside Porirua, who use vans to pick up and drop off dogs and they spend their days at the yard. Pick up starts at 7-9am, and then usually the drivers are in the yard by 9.30. The day is spent monitoring the dogs and keeping the yard clean. Loading starts around 1.30 and first drop off at 2-4pm. So, there is quite a bit of time spent driving, and then around 4 hours in the yard. We provide training and have regular vet visits and get audited once a month from Rappaw. We place a huge emphasis on having a calm and structured pack, dogs come on regular days and we do not do casual days. Training will be provided, yet you will need good physical fitness to be able to get in and out of vans and go up and down stairs daily. You will be driving an auto Toyota Hiace van with special cages in the back therefore a clean full class one Driver Licence is required, you must able be able to pass a MOJ check.
